Belief Certainty
At Choice Awareness Management, we say that when beliefs are completely defined with a set of choices, actions and an end result, then one can say that the belief will produce certainty.
However, most of our beliefs have been assimilated or borrowed from previous generations. Such as family or friends. And they were taken-on from others that we are connected or not, or they were poorly created during childhood or under duress. Many without much clear definition and most probably today will not produce certainty; we only think they do. An example of a false belief would be, “When we work hard and do all the right things, we will live a fruitful and happy life.”
Many people live under this belief and neither receive a fruitful or a happy life: ask your neighbor.
Beliefs are Powerful
We generally hold on to our beliefs with great determination, strength, and high intensity that it is hard for us to accept any new contrary evidence for our specific beliefs. We will continue to harden our beliefs with supporting evidence, but we think little of what is behind it – it’s just there until someone attempts to oppose it. We feel compelled then to defend and rationalize our belief. We dig in our heels deeper when challenged. And why not? We know our beliefs are true – aren’t they?
Well, we hate to burst your bubble about this highly controversial topic because not all of them are true to reality; we just think they are. The good news is some of our beliefs are true, and the bad news is some are not – potentially more not’s are likely the case in our lives.
Some Ideas About Beliefs
But, regardless of the defense of our beliefs, we still don’t understand that much about our beliefs. We will teach you a simple method for evaluating and understanding them, so we invite you to keep reading about our ideas. (You’ll find many more at selections).
A Common Argument
We posit that some of our beliefs are the dearest thing in our lives, much like our greatest loves. Naturally, we tend to romanticize these precious things we love, and some of our beliefs are very special, so much so that we consider them dear, almost saintly at times. These may also not be true to reality – we just think they are.
But, don’t get discouraged because you can design and create a whole new set of beliefs that are true to reality and will help effectively move your life forward. In essence, we call this being On-Purpose, and we have created several webinars to help you develop your own On-Purpose Life.
