Surrendering to Something Greater

surrendering to something greater

This article is about hitting walls and how some of us Aspirant’s handle that situation. You don’t have to be a runner to experience this feeling: there is much written about these supposed limits and their associated videos about people who have hit the wall as athletes.  Who can forget a female marathoner when her bowels let go close to the finish line (e.g. her body simply gave out but her head and heart remained determined)?

Have you ever hit the wall?

Have you ever hit the wall?

We are not talking about pushing such extreme limits of athletic abilities.  However, we wanted to give you an easy example in which to identify – athletes clearly meet that criteria, especially these days because of the proliferation of extreme sports with such extraordinary feats of skill, daring and dexterity.

You may not be a runner, but we have all hit a wall sometime and somewhere in our lives. It doesn’t matter where, when, or how you hit the wall. Still, in most cases, you got halted or supposedly permanently stuck so that you had great difficulty moving forward, taking the next step, or doing the next right thing. In essence, the stoppage seemed impossible to overcome.

This Sense is Terrifying

Some of us have felt so overwhelmed by the stoppage and filled with such intense anxiety; we were unable to proceed. Sometimes to the point of being unable to explain this situation with any clarity to someone else. We say this halting is fear-based, and the associated story(s) you have built justify this situation to yourself.

Stay with us to learn more about this and what you can do to overcome the fear.

An Analogy

“Hitting the wall” analogy is a bit stronger than just getting stopped by something because it suggests that you have been working vigorously at achieving an accomplishment.

Getting stopped has some critical characteristics associated with the stoppage, like frustration and anxiety, except most often they are usually temporary in duration and can be overcome with practices and disciplines. But, hitting the wall is much more dramatic, generally with powerful emotions and almost always couched in some weighty associated sense of fear.

The Fear

Whatever “your wall” maybe, the fear can seem so significant that you feel like you cannot overcome the stoppage, which you may believe is permanent: trust this comment – it isn’t. And, underlying and supporting this fear (i.e., of your wall) is most often a story which you also believe is supported by much evidence: evidence you have accumulated over time. You have built your hit-the-wall stories over time and created boxes in which it is hard to break out. If you have experienced these feelings in any of your experiences, we believe there is a way to overcome them without great expense or turmoil.

And the excellent news is you don’t have to go into therapy to analyze and determine your underlying beliefs associated with these stoppages. The bad news is if you don’t do anything about them, the fear persists. But quite the contrary, we suggest taking on a new belief: we have found that the old ineffective beliefs will fall away once your new beliefs begin working for you.

Creating A Workable Belief

We suggest designing a new belief which we will call “surrendering to something greater.” Further associated outcomes create useable ideas, peace, tranquility, confidence, and strength for you, such that the ideas coming present from your surrendering, are the very things which will work out for the best in your situation(s).

Does this sound possible for you? Understanding your belief in possibility will help a great deal toward getting started – please review our definition of potential, while you explore your ideas.

Your Story of Manifested Faith

Our starting point suggestions in our definition of possibility, which you just read, is a list of simple choices associated with our belief of “exploring the possibility.” These first step choices each have outcomes related to the actions you take for each one. Having the experience of having a possibility come present takes time. One must record results, analyzing the effectiveness, determine what works and doesn’t, provides the overall experience of it: doing it will allow the manifested faith to come present for you – toward your exploring possibility. Without the knowledge of it, no story can exist for you about the opportunity – you can’t share sincerely with integrity what you haven’t personally experienced. By practicing exploring possibility, you will become confident of the fruits of the exercises, and manifested faith will occur. Over time, those characteristics which have increased your manifested faith will be seen in other beliefs too: remember you are consistently monitoring, adjusting and fine-tuning that which works for you, discarding that which doesn’t.

Designing a Higher Power

If you do not already rely upon a deity or higher-power (HP), one must first design an HP, which you will eventually rely upon as a trusted partner. In essence, this will help break your current practice of self-absorbed centricity, moving you toward getting out of yourself. The exercise will take some time, similarly to what we mentioned already about exploring the possibility. Still, it will be well worth the experience: you will come to realize that you will possess increased confidence, trust, and peace as your manifested faith in your HP grows over time.

Faithful Design Ingredients

We invite you to design a higher-power that possesses an unlimited and unconditional love for you. Regardless of what you do, say, or how you behave, you are accepted. Those conditions have nothing to do with how your HP responds to you. You are not subjected to criticism nor admonished for anything you have done or will do. Your HP is there to support and provide you with ideas: help guide you when you need help. Your HP will offer alternatives, suggestions, and introduce you to things that you otherwise would not come upon on your own.

You will meet new people, all of whom may be the carrier of the messages and information that you seek. Your HP is all-knowing, all understanding, and all focused on you and your life. Your HP has angelic powers where some of the messages and ideas are delivered divinely from your deity. You may trust your HP not to harm you. It will be your responsibility to apply what you gain from your HP in our own life – using the CAM Awareness Scale to measure how effective the acquired ideas work in your life.

Getting Started

When you are entirely stopped is the time to engage your HP for help in overcoming the stoppage. It requires you to surrender all your current ideas of what will work or overcome the stoppage and leave the results up to your HP to help you. It means releasing and turning-over the problem, challenge or issue entirely to your HP, with no expectation of results. In essence, this may take a few minutes, a few days or longer, but your HP will help produce a series of ideas, messages, or ways to overcome your stoppage.
